When the The Captain Cook pub just along the road from our studio decided they were going to be open for lunch we knew Friday afternoons were at risk of becoming fairly unproductive! However, we’ve since established a happy medium; lunch in the pub, whilst discussing ways to improve the business, a compromise we feel pretty happy about. After a few visits we decided these delicious dishes needed photographing. We had a couple of conversations with charming manager Michael, over a few more lunches, and we were soon discussing a shot list with the pub’s delightful head chef David.
A date was set in place and we made a few visits prior to the shoot so we could assess where each dish would benefit from being shot (and of course to have lunch!). It was agreed that each item on the menu was quite unique. They were served in a way that best suited the food. So we found backdrops around the pub that would portray the right atmosphere for each individual plate. As well as being aesthetically more interesting to look at, using the restaurant itself as a background gives the images credibility as it’s obvious they are not stock photographs. Customers can therefore be sure they’re going to get exactly what enticed them in in the first place.
We arrived on the day, lighting and camera ready for action, and discussed which drinks each meal should be photographed with. This is important as it can deliver quite a strong message to consumers and if that message is wrong it can be quite destructive to a business. Each shot was carefully talked through, the lighting was set up and the food was prepared and shot at the optimum time; the day ran very smoothly. That same day we began post production and within a few days we were able to hand deliver the final results, and of course enjoy another lunch at The Captain Cook. The feedback we got from the images was fantastic, the guys at The Captain Cook were extremely happy and couldn’t believe how well we’d captured their food.
Take a look at the final results below and visit their Facebook page. They’re food is outstanding and the staff are fantastic, so make a point of going if you’re in the area. They also have beautifully furnished hotel rooms, the perfect place for friends visiting you in London.
