Photographing Executive Chef, Vincent Menager, at the Sofitel St James Hotel, Waterloo Place
The Sofitel St James Hotel has been a major client of ours for over 10 years, they like our photographic style, and we love the creativity and dedication they put into each individual image. Their Executive Chef, Vincent Menager, is a truly talented individual that we thoroughly enjoy working with and after deciding we were in need of a new, striking, image for the homepage of our website we got in contact with Vincent to see how he felt about a collaboration.
We started the process by meeting up with Vincent in The Balcon, the grand restaurant at The Sofitel St James Hotel, in St James Square, to discuss a menu, a backdrop and a time of day that would allow us to get the best shot possible, without disturbing too many guests!
Due to the fact it was a bright day we turned up with just about all the lighting we have and went about setting up. Vincent suggested a large rack of ribs on a thick wooden board with a stainless steel carving knife which we thought was perfectly suited. Once we were in agreement on the look and feel of the image we lit and re-arranged tables etc. whilst Vincent began cooking.
Lighting was a challenge as it was wonderfully sunny outside and so we had windows with no detail in them whatsoever; this was soon sorted out.
Overall the shot took us about 3 hours and came out just as we planned. We were very happy with the overall look of the image and the way it portrays everything we are about, food, interiors and people.
